Winter season (October to February) is the best time to visit Pathanamthitta. The humidity is relatively lower, and the monsoon rains have subsided by this time, making sightseeing and outdoor activities truly enjoyable. Pathanamthitta experiences severe heat with a sudden uncomfortable increase in the humidity level during the summer season (March to May) and it is better to avoid visiting the city at this time of the year. Also, the monsoon season, from June to September, can bring heavy rainfall, which might disrupt travel plans and outdoor exploration.
Sabarimala pilgrimage season, especially the Mandalam-Makaravilakku season, falls between November and January which attracts a massive influx of devotees. If you are in Pathanamthitta during the Onam season (August-September), you can witness the historic Aranmula Boat Race and also attend Aranmula Valla Sadhya at Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple.
