The main idea behind Kerala Village Fair is to bring into light the age-old traditions and customs of Kerala by creating a replica of an entire village in traditional Kerala style. Artisans from various places across Kerala are hired to recreate the entire village based on the bygone days of rural Kerala for the Fair. 

The traditional ‘Nalukettu’, supposed to be the luxurious home of the upper-class in Kerala is set up near Kovalam Beach to form the venue of the Fair. Woods and tiles are used to recreate the ‘Nalukettu’ and the open-air courtyard is its main highlight. Various kinds of items of the bygone era like Priceless Furniture in Mahogany, Teak, and Sandalwood, Ethnic Jewelry, Exquisite paintings, Spice Bowls, Shields and Swords, Old Musical Instruments, Palmyra Fans, Majestic four Poster Beds, etc, are displayed inside the ‘Nalukettu’ that forms an endearing attraction which reflects an aura of the olden days. The courtyard of the house is decorated with colourful floral decorations known as Pookalam that adds to its beauty. Besides ‘Nalukettu’, the Kerala Village Fair also showcases a model of Chayakada (village teashops) which offers authentic Kerala Food and Kamalagramam (artisan homesteads) which displays traditional artefacts of Kerala including jewellery and handicrafts. The traditional Kerala delicacies like Kappa (tapioca) and Meen (fish) Curry, Puttu (steamed rice cake) and Kadala (chickpeas) curry, Pazhampori (banana fritters), Paripuvada (lentil fritters), etc, served at the Chayakada are worth its taste. One can also relish the taste of refreshing chai, tender coconut, lime juice, etc from the Chayakada.
