Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, an abode of rich flora and fauna, is the largest wildlife sanctuary of Kerala that spreads over an area of 345 sq. km. Set amidst the hills of Western Ghats, the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is probably a rain forest. Its natural beauty and biodiversity make it an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary has been declared as a Project Elephant site, as it is home to large population of pachyderms and you can see elephants roaming around freely in this sanctuary. Many wildlife animals like tigers and deer are also spotted here. The trees and plants of this sanctuary are typical of the semi-evergreen, dry deciduous and moist deciduous forests.
