Mangla Devi Temple is a historic temple beautifully set deep inside the forest of Periyar Tiger Reserve. This temple is situated at 1337 m above sea level on the top of a peak. This 1000-year-old ancient temple is dedicated to Mangala Devi, popularly known as Kannaki. She was the devoted wife of Kovalan who took revenge against killing her innocent husband, who was accused of theft. To avenge her husband, she burnt down the Town of Madurai. Thousands of devotees visit this temple every year to pay homage to Mangla Devi. Apart from being a pilgrimage centre, the temple is known for the wildness of the forest and the enchanting beauty of nature.
