Kozhikode - Matri Dei Cathedral

The Latin word Matri Dei Cathedra means Mother of God. Therefore, this cathedral is also known as the Mother of God Church. The Matri Dei Cathedra is devoted to Virgin Mary of Immaculate Conception. This church is known for its Roman style of architecture and its history dates back to 1513. The curved arches on the doors and windows show the expert skills of the Italian architects. The stunning combination of white and brown adorn the interiors of the church. This church serves as the main worship centre of the Roman Catholic congregation in Malabar. A myriad of people visits this church to offer prayers to Mother Mary and to witness this architectural splendour. The 200-Year-old portrait of Mother Mary with the Infant Jesus is the major attraction of this cathedral.
