Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple in Thiruvananthapuram is the only temple in Kerala dedicated to Lord Parasurama and is one among the most ancient temples of South India. Lord Parasurama who is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu is said to be the mythological creator of the State of Kerala. This 2000-year-old Parasurama Temple is known for Balitharpanam - a tribute to ancestors, where the devotees, after taking a dip in the holy waters, pay homage to the departed souls of their forefathers. This temple of cultural and historical significance is preserved as a protected monument by the Archaeology Department of Kerala.
