In a narrow gorge between two granite hills, across the Periyar river, stands the famous double curvature Arch Dam - the Idukki Dam. The Idukki Dam was constructed in order to generate hydroelectricity. This magnificent marvel is ranked as Asia’s first and the world's second highest Arch Dams. The two hills on either side of the Dam is locally known as Kuravan and Kurathi Hills which are also a famous tourist attraction. Surrounded by lush vegetation with abundant wildlife, it is a great place to explore. One can enjoy a mesmerizing boat ride amidst scenic beauty that soothes the mind and soul.
