The Vizhinjam Lighthouse located near Poovar is located at the shores of the beach in Kovalam. The Vizhinjam Lighthouse offers a spellbinding view of the sea especially during the sunsets in the evening. Vizhinjam Lighthouse is the largest lighthouse in Kerala, a land that mostly consists of beaches. The Vizhinjam Lighthouse is situated atop the small Kurumkal hill and surrounded by coconut trees and is 35 meters tall making the sight from the lighthouse a spectacular one. The lighthouse beach offers a lot of adventurous activities including surfing and motor boating. The place where it is located used to be a busy seaport during when there was no lighthouses there. During the 20th century the Vizhinjam Lighthouse was constructed at this place. It is because of Vizhinjam Lighthouse that the nearby beach came to be called lighthouse beach. A visit to the Vizhinjam Lighthouse offers you the most wonderful view in all of Kerala.
