Halcyon Castle is familiar to everyone by the name Kovalam Palace. In the year 1932, M.R. Sri Rama Varma Valiya Koil Thampuran built this castle as a summer retreat for him and his entire family. The castle reflects the admirable blend of traditional Kerala style with the Colonial style of architecture. The well-maintained expansive lawn is the main highlight of this castle. In 1964, Valiya Koil Thampuran sold this beautiful castle to the Government of Kerala which was eventually converted into a luxurious hotel. But later, it was owned and run by the Leela Group and now it belongs to the Ravi Pillai Group.
