St. Angelo Fort is one of the popular historic sites in Kannur, familiar to everyone as Kannur Fort or Kannur Kotta. With the consent of the ruling Kolathiri Raja, Dom Francisco de Almeida, the first Portuguese Viceroy of India built this massive Fort in the year 1505. The Fort is triangular in shape and is made of laterite with strong bastions and a moat. This magnificent Fort is built facing the Arabian Sea which is so enticing. Quite a number of people visit this Fort to enjoy an amazing view of the Arabian Sea and for a relaxing stroll. The Fort also offers an excellent view of the beautiful Dharmadam Island and the Mopilla Bay, a natural harbor.
